Eat whole foods, Breathe deeply, Drink water and Sleep for a minimum of 7-8 hours
Whole foods are the foods that are closest to the natural state i.e. no chemicals/additives. Generally these are fresh/local or frozen foods.
Breathe deeply – expand your abdomen when breathing deeply (baby belly); this exercises your heart and helps the oxygen/carbon dioxide exchange. Breathe in to the count of 4, hold for count of 7 and exhale to count of 8, 3-5 times. Do this at intervals throughout the day – when stressed, when seeking some creative thought and for helping to quiet your mind before sleep.
Drink water – Our bodies are predominately made up of water (60%). We need water to support clean blood, cell and organ functions (did you know that water makes up 73% of our brain and heart and our lungs, 83%*). Drinks with additives do not replace our need for water. Drink as much as you can; however, please note that drinking at meals reduces your stomach’s gastric acid performance.
Sleep – our bodies go into maintenance and repair mode when we sleep. In order to properly perform, there is a minimum amount of time required for the continuous sleep cycles. Habitually reducing that time will impact your body’s performance and can lead to weight gain, food cravings and inflammation.
A great way to help flush the night’s maintenance work is with a cup of warm lemon water when you get up.
